As a Christian, I pray that the Lord comes soon. We call ourselves a "civilized" society but we are far from it. I am not talking about individual rights and laws but about the atrocities this world allows to continue. Other countries are brutalizing people and yet we do nothing in the name of sovereignty. We tell ourselves that we cannot interfere in the other cultures because it would not be "right" to impose our views upon them.
Some rights, like humane treatment, should not be dependent upon individual cultures but should be universal. Just because a culture exists doesn't mean it has a right to. The Nazis were a culture that were so evil that they needed to be wiped out root and branch. For us to allow the torture of innocents to continue merely because a country or a culture claims that they are sovereign shows how little we have developed as a race.
We call ourselves "civilized" but have no concept of what the word means. Cell phones, flat screen TV's and the internet are just devices that we use and are by know means a yardstick of how far we have come as a society. People think we have achieved some level of maturity because of our technological advancements. I say that we will have a right to call ourselves civilized when our soul purpose is to use that technology to alleviate the suffering of others irrespective of their country or culture.

Does God punish us when we sin?

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!". This is the passage I must strive to remember. The old Don is gone and exists no more. How can God judge me on my accomplishments if He has no standard to go by? I either believe that I am an entirely new creature and His grace has set me free, or I believe that He is still holding on and judging me by my old life, which is to call Him a liar (which I will never do).
Psalm 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.". Again, am I going to call Him a liar by acting as if He does remember my transgressions? Heaven forbid. In His eyes we are His Children. He sees us through the blood of Christ which washes away all of our sins. It is my refusal (at times) to not fully believe that He could possibly forget all of the things that Satan reminds me of daily. It's funny that people believe that God will punish His children when they sin (as a lesson or because He is unhappy with us). How can God punish us for something that He cannot even remember? Obviously He can't and He won't.
